Fela was born on 15th October 1938. Fela had asked all the ladies in his band if they wanted to marry him, of which 27 of them agreed. Then on February 20, 1978, Fela called 12 traditional priests who presided over the wedding ceremony which took place at a hotel in Lagos. After the wedding, he took all his 27 wives to Ghana for their honeymoon.
However, in 1986, he divorced all of them with the claim that “Marriage brings jealousy and selfishness”.
Fela died on August 2, 1997. His elder brother, Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti later told the world that the self-acclaimed “Abami-Eda” died of HIV/AIDS.
