The newly re-elected prime minister Boris Johnson left Downing Street and move to see Her Majesty where she will invite him to form a Government. Although Boris was chosen in a landslide victory for the Conservative Party last night, it is not official until the Queen has undertaken constitutional duties.
Her Majesty will hold a one-to-one meeting, known as an audience, with the PM this afternoon and is something they will continue weekly through his premiership.
Just after 5 am today, Mr. Johnson’s party won after crossing the 326-seat threshold, which has been described as the biggest win for the Tories since the 1980s.
He faced ferocious competition from the Labour party, but they were unable to defeat him and he was elected with an increased majority of 7,210. Mr. Johnson is expected to make a speech outside Downing Street outlining a schedule for the formation of his new government.
